A/Prof Paul Buntine is Acting Executive Director of the Eastern Health Institute, Director of Emergency Medicine Research at Eastern Health, an Emergency Physician at Box Hill Hospital and an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at Monash University (Eastern Health Clinical School). He has extensive experience in driving local quality improvement projects, including the highly successful Safer Care Victoria-funded No Unnecessary Tests (NUTs) project at Eastern Health which won the 2016 Victorian Public Healthcare Award for Excellence in Quality and Safety. This body of work led to widespread sharing of outcomes through subsequent integration into multiple Safer Care Victoria initiatives aimed at reducing low value care. He has been invited to speak on topics related to improving diagnostic decision making at a national level and provides regular lectures to undergraduate students on this topic. He has considerable local and multi-site research experience and has been involved in successful research and quality improvement grants totalling over $3.5 million.
Through his role as Acting Executive Director of the Eastern Health Institute, he provides executive leadership to all research and education related activities across Eastern Health and oversees academic partnerships with Monash University, Latrobe University and Deakin University. He also leads the Eastern Health Emergency Research Program, coordinating translational research projects across three large metropolitan emergency departments, including the ARISE FLUIDS study, “Just Say No to the Just In Case Cannula” study and the EDNAV initiative. He also actively contributions to multiple paediatric research projects via membership with the PREDICT network.
