This workshop is an introduction to applying Māori models of well-being in healthcare practice, with a focus on enhancing cultural safety and competency. Facilitated by Di Te Tau and Jon Royal, both experienced trainers with extensive backgrounds in Māori health and cultural competency, this session is designed to provide practical tools and strategies that healthcare professionals can immediately integrate into their practice.
Workshop Outcomes
By the end of this workshop, participants will:
- Gain a thorough understanding of key Māori models of well-being, including Te Wheke and Te Whare Tapa Whā, and how these frameworks can be applied to improve cultural safety in healthcare settings.
- Develop practical skills in using these models to enhance interactions with patients, colleagues, and communities, ensuring that care is culturally appropriate and respectful.
- Recognise the importance of cultural wellbeing in fostering trust and improving health outcomes for Māori patients and the experiences of staff working with them.
- Learn strategies for integrating these models into daily practice, thereby promoting a more inclusive and supportive healthcare environment.
CPD: Educational Activities (EA) – 3.5 hours
The Cultural Safety activity from 2024 is not required to be an approved activity. CPD participants may undertake Cultural Safety related activities that are relevant to their practice and of particular interest to them with no minimum duration and complete a written reflection on the activity to meet the mandatory requirement.
